Paint Your Own: Catzilla - Water Color Workshop for Kids + Parents.
Introducing CatZilla, our kaiju-inspired, city-stomping feline. In this monster packed workshop, participants will paint a pre-printed illustration of our feline kaiju while exploring watercolor in a fun, guided, way that leaves room for personal style and bold creative choices.
Working on an 8 x 10 watercolor print, artists will learn core skills like brush control, color mixing, layering washes, and how to work with water to create depth and movement.
This workshop introduces watercolor as a flexible, expressive medium — perfect for first-time painters and growing artists alike and this workshop is also specifically designed for parents and kids to create side by side. It's a great way to discover a new painting medium together.
This workshop is at Kaboom Games and begins at 11AM Saturday 24th January.
Supplies are limited, therefore ** YOU MUST REGISTER** for this workshop as supplies will only be ordered for those that let us know they are attending. No walk-ins.

Join us for our monthly Connecting With Artists & Crafters Event! January 24th local artists and crafters will join the McAllen Farmers Market vendors. Find local vegetables, fruits, and various value added vendors. Our event vendors will a great selection of various items that will help you with your Valentine gifts for that special person. We will also have home bakers that will provide you with tasty baked goods.
Please join WBU staff for a talk about how Rio Grande Valley bird lovers can turn our yards into inviting havens for both ourselves AND the fantastic diversity of birds we get.
We're lucky to have beautiful native plants here in the Valley that are naturally attractive to birds because they provide the food and shelter birds need. Adding more native plants to your yard—as well as offering the rights bird foods in the right kind of feeders—attracts birds so you can enjoy and support them. Native plants also make your life easier as a gardener, as these plants are adapted to our local climate and pests.
In this talk, we'll discuss:
• Unique elements of our native Valley habitat
• The right foods and feeders for attracting a diversity of Valley birds
• How to landscape and garden here in the Valley with the birds and other wildlife in mind

The Interpretive Tram Tours are back this season!
Established in 1943 to protect migratory birds, Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge is positioned along an east-west and north-south juncture of two major migratory routes for many species of birds. The refuge is right in the middle of all this biological diversity, making this 2,088-acre parcel the ‘jewel of the National Wildlife Refuge System.’ Enjoy a unique guided tour through a pristine, protected area where Spanish moss hangs from tall-reaching ebony trees and sabal palms rise between prickly pear cacti. Santa Ana NWR is the home of more than 400 species of bird, nearly half of all butterfly species found in North America, and such South Texas specialties as the Indigo snake and the Altamira Oriole.
